Northampton Fencing Club Trustee & General Committee Meetings

Held on Wednesday 6th December 2006
Present : John & Lynda Norrie, Graham Beech, Paul Drake, Chris Holt, Paul Willmott.
Apologies : Natalie Turner, Steve Rowntree.
The meetings of the Trustees & the General Committee were merged into one meeting. Any votes required would only include relevant committee members.

1. Apologies
Apologies were received from Natalie Turner & Steve Rowntree.

2. Minutes of Previous Meeting
CH noted a minor grammar error. There were no other issues with the minutes.

3. Matters arising
Actions from previous meeting were reviewed:

Beginners course dates agreed as laid out in draft calendar N/A

1-1 coaching & small group work more structured/formal - CH to announce. CH People aware that they must request coaching. More 1:1 coaching being done.
Appropriate coaches to pursue sabre/epee beginners course. PD to consider equipment implications. Coaches Ongoing
PW is pursuing an epee “special” option. PW PW to discuss getting Lucy from Millfield to run coaching session.
Beginners joining the club should pick up a mentor.   This will happen once we know who stays on.
60th anniversary competition - 9th December - to run from 1.30 JN/All In Hand
PW to investigate option of a meal after the competition. PW Postponed until January
Members check and append the draft calendar provided and return to him All Complete.
ANO Replacement to be discussed next meeting. All ANO to be filled at AGM in January 2007
Cost of membership to be displayed on noticeboard and website.   Costs shown on letter provided to people finishing the beginners course.

4. Juniors
Juniors session open to under 14 year olds will run from 7pm, allowing an earlier finish if required. Coaches need to coordinate to ensure there is adequate cover for juniors & beginners.

NFC to purchase extra 3 small jackets from Leon Paul to cover increased demand.

SR to be asked to investigate grant for additional equipment specifically for juniors.

5. AOB
  1. Rothwell School has approached NFC to provide coaching course. Representatives due to visit club on 07/12/2006 to discuss further with committee. LN should be able to coach if on the right day. We plan to charge £25 per hour for coaching & same for equipment hire.
  2. Body For Life course have approached us for some coaching/taster sessions. PW to contact & clarify requirements.
  3. Redwell Sports Centre have asked if we can run a 1 hour session at International Women's Day on 10th March 2007. This clashes with several competitions although general feeling was that we should do this if at all possible. GB to confirm to PW if this clashes with Wellingborough School dates as this would impact availability of coaches & kit.
  4. Steve Scholes to be asked to write article to advertise beginners course in January.
  5. Under 14 year old must no longer be allowed to fence without appropriate sized sabres & epees. Club will purchase 2 each of RH electric sabres & epees (French grip).
  6. JN to book hall for Gary Baker (Jan 07) & Doug Facer (Apr 07) competitions.
  7. AGM scheduled for 11th January 2007.
  8. Nick Partridge has asked if it okay to give away a voucher for a free beginner's course as a raffle prize at the 2007 Annual NFC Quiz. Committee agreed this was a good idea.
