Committee meeting minutes
Northampton Fencing Club Committee Meeting
- 4th October 2006
Present; J&L Norrie, G Beech, P Drake, C Holt, S Rowntree, P Wilmott.
Apologies: NTurner.
1. Apologies
2. Minutes
Ratification of the last minutes postponed until all members had received them
3. Matters arising
- postponed to next meeting
4. CRB and Child protection issues
PW and NT to ensure coaches have opportunities to access child protection courses, first aid courses and CRB form completion procedures.
CRB received from all trustees except NT whose is except imminently.
5. Data protection
SR raised possibility that a "data protection officer" may be necessary - he is to pursue further.
6. Beginners course
Dates sent in by NT were considered, but it was eventually agreed that the slightly later dates laid out in GBs draft calendar might as well be adhered to.
Cost of course and inclusion of glove discussed but unresolved so current arrangement remains.
7. Coaching
CH explained that BFA are introducing the requirement for coaches to have completed a first aid course. PW to pursue opportunity for course to be run at the club.
JN suggesting making 1-1 coaching & small group work more structured/formal - perhaps having a chalkboard for members to sign up for lessons on. CH to announce tomorrow.
JN suggested the possibility of offering Sabre and epee beginners sessions and was felt to be a good idea. Appropriate coaches to pursue. PW to consider equipment implications.
PW complimented on the new footwork routines bought back from Summer camp.
GB suggested offering some "specials" one-off sessions run by a bought in coach. PW is pursuing an epee option.
GB suggested that beginners joining the club should pick up a mentor. Agreed.
There was a general feeling that responses to the beginners course were still disproportionate to the advertising/publicity we have put out - ideas sought.
8. AOB
-
JN: 60th anniversary competition - 9th December - to run from 1.30 as morning no longer available.
PW to investigate option of a meal after the competition.
-
SR: new members to pay now up to end of year(Dec) - £40 & £20 and, for last group, £35 & £17.50
Finances will be a more accurate reflection (and look healthier) after adjustment for change of fencing year to January - December.
Charity status - and opportunity for gift-aiding expected soon as all requirements appear to have been met.
- Calendar: GB asked that committee members check and append the draft calendar provided and return to him
- Notice received from Mark Bampkin resigning his post as ANO on the committee due to demands of his changed circumstances. Replacement to be discussed next meeting.
- LN asked for cost of membership to be displayed on noticeboard and website - agreed.
- The clubs details now appear (almost) accurately on the BFA site now.
- PD: PBT has replaced the faulty 2 new batteries and a new charger has been purchased (just in case!).
