The aim of the beginner's course is to generate members. The structure is to be designed to lead towards the beginner achieving BFA Grade 1 Award.
General agreement was that 8 weeks would be sufficient for the course.
The new course (due to start 28/04/2005) has already been agreed as being 10 weeks. The new structure will come into force from the next course.
It was agreed that we should encourage members to gain coaching qualifications.
It was agreed that we should contact Jonathon Katz to see if he will run a coaching course for the club. When we have a price we will discuss whether the club will partially fund this. JN 18/08/2005
BFA have confirmed that a club leader can take a beginner's course without the supervision of a qualified coach.
All of the club leaders & committee members will be approached to see if they would be prepared to be involved in buddying:
  • Each 'buddy' will be allocated to 2 or 3 new members.
  • A buddy will check beginners are integrated into the club & that their needs are fulfilled.

Fees & Fee Structure
It was unanimously agreed that the club would pay the cost of the venue during the summer. Members will not be asked to pay any extra between July & September 2005. We would make sure that the members are aware that we are doing this.
If members (including beginners) join part way through the year the fee payable will be calculated on a pro-rata basis. Currently as the annual fee is £120, e.g. someone joining in June would pay for June, July & August, i.e. £30.
If someone wishes to pay in instalments they may pay in 2 x 6 monthly instalments. Other terms may be agreed by special arrangement with the Treasurer.

Age Limits
Children under the age of 9 cannot fence.
Children between the age of 9 & 11 may join the beginner's course only if their parent or guardian also fences.
Children between the age of 11 and 16 must have a parent or guardian present whilst fencing.

Equipment
FC to speak to Sharon to arrange moving all of the outstanding club kit to Moulton. FC 14/04/2005
Once all of the kit is at Moulton, we will do a full audit. After that we can decide what to replace, buy, etc.

Any Other Business
There are old trophies at The Crown & Cushion. MB to go to pub & retrieve them. Once we have them we will decide what to do with them. MB 30/04/2005
Results. John wants details of any achievements/entries, etc. to publicise & use in Captain's report. All
Graham asked if the club would be prepared to loan him some kit for a World Challenge project to be run in Orlingbury. It was unanimously agreed that we would not charge for this loan, but we would distribute flyers, etc.
Once we are at Moulton we could allow people to start fencing any time after 7pm, as there will be space.
GB to get some chocolates to present to Karen the caretaker at Kingsley Park School. GB 07/04/2005

Meeting closed 22:30

Next Meeting 1st June 2005. Venue to be agreed.
