Beginners Courses
This course will provide you with a short introduction to foil fencing.
You will be in a small group of usually no more than 12, which at times will be further broken down into pairs supported by coaches and/or club leaders who will provide more personal support and guidance to help you develop your fencing skills.
You do not need to know anything about fencing, simply an interest in trying the sport.
Fencing kit (masks, jackets, foils) are provided will be provided for the sessions.

- Defence - Introduce parry of quarte
- Parry of quarte in response to lunge - with the attacker moving

- Review of parry quarte
- Parry of sixte
- Step lunge
- Parry riposte
- Parry riposte with movement

| Week 6 |
- Review of lunge
- Importance of distance
- The fencing line
- Introduction of direct first counter riposte
- Changing length and speed of advance and retire

| Week 7 |
- Review of direct first counter riposte
- Direct first counter riposte with movement
- Introduce rules of bout
- Fencing pool - opportunity to fence all the fencers on the course (but only one at a time!)
- Option of staying to end of evening

Options at the end of the course?
- You can join Northampton Fencing Club and take advantage of group and individual coaching.
- If you join the club, you will be required to join British Fencing, this provides you with insurance cover (details can be obtained from the club treasurer).
- If you wish to develop your foil skills there is a grading scheme available.
